Debunking a rumor: The PMBOK is NOT changing Aug. 31, 2011 (but the PMP exam IS!)

To avoid confusion, there is 1 FALSE RUMOR and 1 TRUE FACT about the change to the PMP exam coming up August 31, 2011.

1) FALSE Rumor – Some people have been saying that the PMBOK may be changing in August.  This is NOT TRUE.  Per PMI, there are NO ANNOUNCED CHANGES to the PMI PMBOK Guide planned for 2011. (This  rumor probably started from the true fact below)

2) TRUE Fact – The PMP exam IS changing effective Aug. 31, 2011.

Starting Aug. 31, 2011, the PMP test will no longer have 6 Domains (the 5 process groups +  Social Responsibility/Ethics). Instead, there will only be 5 Domains (one on each of the 5 process groups: Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring & Controlling, Closing) and the Social Responsibility/Ethics questions will be interspersed throughout these 5  sections.

NOTE –  This change is based on the results of a Role Delineation Study (RDS) PMI recently conducted about the PMP.  It reflects the idea that Ethics and Social Responsibility are an integral part of the 5 domains (as per the results of the RDS).
